| Job Title: | Adjunct Faculty - Interpersonal Communication | | Company: | Sanford-Brown Institute | | Location: | San Antonio, TX 78229 | | Description: | GENERAL PURPOSE: Primary job responsibilities include teaching general education courses according to specified learning outcomes; evaluating student performance; academic advising and career related counseling to students; actively engage in retention activities; identify and assist at-risk students; maintain competency and currency in academic research, trends, issues, and practices, including effective teaching strategies and assessment methods; and provide support for program and institutional initiatives. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:· - Teach courses as assigned by Director of Education or Program Director (generally, up to 32 clock hours per week within no more than five preparations in different subjects; however, course assignments are not guaranteed and may vary based upon availability, scheduling needs, or other requirements).
- Actively engage in retention activities including documented communication with both students and administration regarding attendance and progress.
- Assist students with course registration and academic advice as requested by the Director of Education or Program Director.
- Provide assistance for the planning, development and maintenance of program curriculum.
- Work with the Director of Education or Program Director to resolve student concerns.
- Mentor select groups of new faculty and maintain continuity of curriculum.
- Assist in the classroom review of adjunct faculty.
- Provide annual documentation of continuing professional growth in one’s field.
- Attend regularly scheduled program meetings, academic in-service workshops, and college-wide faculty meetings.
- Attend related advisory board meetings at needed.
- Manage special projects as formally assigned by the Program Director or Director of Education (including, but not limited to, the organization and posting of student work for display; assistance with orientation programs and open houses; assistance with accreditation preparation).
- Adhere to and publicly support academic policies and procedures, including but not limited to the faculty handbook and catalog.
QUALIFICATIONS:
SKILLS/ABILITIES Documented expertise in instructional principles and practices and expertise in interpersonal and oral presentation/written communication skills as demonstrated by data sheet, diplomas, degrees, transcripts, certifications, CVs/Resumes, and in personal interview. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one year of teaching experience working in an academic setting.
EDUCATION: Completion of a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in the teaching area is required; candidates with master’s degrees or higher are preferred.
